Today, while out on a walk, my attention was caught by some kids playing baseball. One boy had just hit the ball and was racing around the bases. A slightly younger boy - I am assuming a little brother - was excitedly cheering for his brother. He was so excited for his brother that he ran towards him as he crossed home plate and was inadvertently bowled over. They both laughed and cheered as they fell. The exchange brightened my day.
This heartwarming scene reminded me of how important it is to cheer each other on. Life is hard, but it can be so much more enjoyable when we have others rooting for us. This is especially true in the world of entrepreneurship.
Being an entrepreneur is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Elon Musk once likened it to “staring into the abyss and eating glass.” Most people on the planet will never become entrepreneurs because of how difficult and scary it can be.
So, are we cheering on our fellow entrepreneurs? Are we celebrating their success? Are we providing support when they stumble? Can we move beyond the zero-sum game mindset that other's success somehow diminishes my own? Can we instead provide solace in the mutual struggle?
To my fellow entrepreneurs: You are amazing! You belong to the select few who take this most difficult path. You can do this. I believe in you.
